Vision

The Flute Department aims to preserve, promote, and innovate the traditions of Carnatic music through dedicated education, performance, and community engagement. We strive to cultivate a deep understanding of the flute as a vital instrument in Carnatic music, fostering both technical excellence and expressive artistry among students and performers.

To be a leading centre for excellence in Carnatic flute music, nurturing the next generation of flutists to be skilled musicians and also passionate ambassadors of this rich musical tradition.

Code of Ethics

The students are expected to :

  1. Honor the ancient tradition of Carnatic music by faithfully preserving its core principles, including the authenticity of ragas, talas, and compositions.
  2. Foster an environment of mutual respect among students, teachers, and peers, recognizing the value of each individual’s contribution.
  3. Strive for the highest standards of excellence in performance, teaching, and personal practice.
  4. Give proper credit to composers, arrangers, and teachers for their work and contributions to the art form.
  5. Uphold the highest standards of intellectual honesty in the use of musical material, acknowledging sources accurately and fully.
  6. Promote a spirit of collaboration and community within the department, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and ideas.
  7. Maintain professionalism in all aspects of performance and interaction, including punctuality, preparedness, and respect for colleagues and audiences.
  8. Refrain from actions or behaviors that could bring disrepute to the department or the broader Carnatic music community.

History

In the 28-year history of Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, a distinguished institution in Tiruchirappalli, the Bachelor of Flute a Self-financing programme was launched on 08-09-2023 with the approval of the Tamil Nadu Dr J Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University for the academic year 2023-24. This programme’s initiation marked the realization of a long-held dream of the institution, materialised under the visionary leadership of Rev. Fr. S. Louis Britto, the Director and Secretary of the College.

The programme was inaugurated by Msgr.Rev. Fr.L. Anthuvan, Vicar General, Tiruchirappalli Diocese. Rev. Fr. S. Louis Britto, Secretary & Director of the college presided over the function, with College Principal Dr. P. Natarajan offering his felicitation.

The commencement of this degree program was spearheaded by Assistant Professor Mr. S. Prakash, who has 13 years of experience in the college’s flute department. He has been appointed as the Head of the Department, paving the way for students to begin their studies in the Bachelor of Arts in Flute (BA-Flute) program.
